No. 251
Sir,
ENCLOSURE.
Rec'd 28 SEP ?
Tung Wa Hospital.
Hong-Kong, 4th August, 1897.
43
I have the honour to report for the information of the Government regarding the working of the Tung Wa Hospital during the three months, 1st April to 30th June of this year.
I have continued to pursue the general policy outlined in my report of the first quarter of the year dated 8th April, and have sought to render permanent the alterations and improvements therein described.
The two new surgical wards were opened on the 15th April, since which date most of the surgical cases have been treated in them, and it is satisfactory evidence that the new arrangements in the Tung Wa Hospital are not resented by the outside public, that even with the additional accommodation thus obtained there has been an almost continuous pressure on the Hospital space during almost the whole quarter. Not unfrequently enquiry has had to be made as to whether discharges might be made from the wards before applications for admission could be considered.
